Since 2011 Barry A. Vittor & Associates, Inc. has performed stream Rapid Bioassessments (RBA) at five sites at North American Coal’s Red Hills Mine site in Choctaw County, Mississippi. This work is being performed on behalf of North
American Coal and was designed to provide quantitative information necessary to characterize aquatic biological resources at that site. RBA data from “natural” stream sections, as well as sections of a stream diverted as a part of mining activity was used to gain a greater understanding of possible impacts of mining activities on streams near the proposed lignite mine area.
